Rock Star

Lily and her new friends

Lily and her new friends

Time ceases to exist when you travel across the world.  I changed my watch in Iceland and again in Stockholm but by the time we woke up in Arvika on our first full day (at 1pm!), there was confusion.  Both girls are great fliers.  We enthusiastically chewed gum at all departures and arrivals and suffered very little from the air pressure.  There was no throwing up.

Patrik, my host brother and Kurt met us at the airport.  Once again we barely fit the 8 pieces of luggage in the minivan.  The trip to Arvika took 4 hours and Lily slept for most of it.  Yarrow and I slept a bit also.  We have been treated in a Grand Style.  We are staying with Camilla, my host sister and Anders and Leia, 3 years old.  The Americans have taken over the basement and an American flag is waving in the back yard, thanks to Anders.  They are very generous hosts.  Lily is delighted with the large screen tv and Yarrow is pleased with all the options in shampoos, conditioners and body washes available to her in the shower.  Dynasty, the 80’s tv show is starting up on one of the channels next week.  Oh boy!

Lily started school today, Wednesday.  She is in the same classroom as Julia, Patriks oldest daughter.  On Tuesday, we dropped by the school at the end of the day (1:20 on Tuesdays and Fridays), to meet her teachers and the other students.  23 beaming faces turned to look at us when we entered the door.  They are ticked pink to have an amerikansk flicka in their classroom.  Today when we walked down to the school, Lily was escorted up to the classroom by 10 chatty little girls.  “Lily’s coming today!”  “Lily’s coming today!”   Lily’s a rock star!

Kurt has begun work.  His boss purchased him a pair of pants, jacket and black t-shirt.  He looks sharp!  he was exhausted after his first day.  They are not sure what to do with him.  After standing around listening for a time, he picked up a broom and started sweeping.  After that they handed him a chainsaw.

Yarrow is with Camilla and the horses.  Camilla owns a large swedish warmblood named Lady.  Her belly is as big as Fawns, our horse at home.  I am taking care of business today.  We need to buy a car tonight!  Lets hope it goes better then Kurt’s first trip to the grocery store.  Apparently, not one of the items he purchased were what he thought they were.  Luckily, all were edible!
