We are renting an apartment that is one floor up from Indian AB, the transporting and building rental business ran by the men of the Gustafson family. Our original arrangement for an apartment in the center of the town fell through at the last moment. Thank goodness! Evenings in Arvika Center are loud and raucous with the vehicles and people. There is always something happening here as well, with trucks and horses, but its a comfortable noise. The stable is host to two other horses and there is a complex schedule of morning and evening feedings and removal from and to the stable. The girls are responsible for cleaning out the stall and preparing the hay for the small Shetland pony, Caramito. I take one or two of the morning responsibilities each week. And I thought I was done with critter chores! We are happy here and are lucky that Jenny, the youngest Gustafson child, decided to go to school as an social worker and she has generously allowed us to take over her apartment for the year. Its lovely, large and comfortable. The view out the window is the open summer field for the horses. We can bicycle into the middle of town in 20 minutes and there are miles of well groomed walking and ski trails in the forest around us. The girls wander outside much the same way we did at home.
As you enter the apartment you are in a small room where we have shoes and jackets. A short journey up a winding set of stairs and you are in the apartment. In front of you is an open space with a few tall white free standing closets. To the right and you can choose to enter the girls’ room or Kurt and Betsey’s.
To the left and you walk out onto a nice balcony/deck, into the bathroom or to the kitchen which leads into two living rooms. We have Jenny’s fab leather couch and chairs, an antique neck high chest of drawers, a modern glass fronted cabinet and a computer nook. The bunkbeds were left as well and we have them set up in the living room for play and guests. Lily has already decided the sleeping arrangements for when Max and Seve are here. The sun, when it shines, fills the room with the same soft golden colour we have from the logs at home. We have Camilla and Anders extra TV, the TV connection with 4 stations from the summer cabin. We need no more!!
